Many
times throughout this website you have come across the term "Truly
Versatile". What does this mean? Webster's Dictionary defines versatile as
follows:

: changing or fluctuating readily :
2 : taking in a variety of subjects, fields, or skills: also turning
from one thing or position to another :
3 : having many uses or applications :
To
this definition we can compare the Deutsch Drahthaar.
A
closer look at the Deutsch Drahthaar will reveal that the title of truly
versatile is aptly applied. The properly trained and experienced Deutsch
Drahthaar is as competent in the flooded timber of Arkansas as it is in the
Prairies of South Dakota and can equally take up the arduous task of blood
tracking wild hogs or deer. In Europe the Deutsch Drahthaar is used to track
and bay wild boar, to track, point and retrieve the hare and upland game as
well as retrieve waterfowl and forget not the crowning jewel of the truly
versatile dog blood tracking. And did I mention that all of this is expected
from an individual dog!!
A good
many hunters have a pointing dog for the finding of game, a retriever for
what the name implies and if they deer hunt either blood track themselves or
call someone else with (hopefully) a trained blood tracking dog. So, as you
can see a truly versatile dog has quite a resume. But all of the genetics
testing and parentage are for nothing without an owner that has the
dedication to train his Deutsch Drahthaar for these demanding tasks. Are
you that person??
The
Deutsch Drahthaar is not for every hunter!! To place a Deutsch Drahthaar
with a person that does not appreciate what has gone into the development,
maintenance and improvement of the Deutsch Drahthaar for over 100 years
borders on irresponsible. I am in need of those that are willing to continue
this process through training, testing and huntin' the fire out of 'em. If
